Μετὰ δὲ τὴν με τοικεσίαν Βαβυλῶνος ᾽Ιεχονίας ἐγέννησε τὸν Σαλαθιήλ, Σαλαθιὴλ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν Ζοροβάβελ, Ζοροβάβελ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Αβιούδ,᾽Αβιοὺδ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Ελιακείμ, ᾽Ελιακεὶμ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Αζώρ, ᾽Αζὼρ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν Σαδώκ, Σαδὼκ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Αχείμ, ᾽Αχεὶμ δὲ ἐγέννη σε τὸν ᾽Ελιούδ, ᾽Ελιοὺδ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Ελεάζαρ, ᾽Ελε άζαρ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν Ματθάν, Ματθὰν δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Ιακώβ, ᾽Ιακὼβ δὲ ἐγέννησε τὸν ᾽Ιωσὴφ τὸν ἄνδρα Μα ρίας, ἐξ ἧς ἐγεννήθη ᾽Ιησοῦς ὁ λεγόμενος Χριστός. Πᾶσαι οὖν αἱ γενεαὶ ἀπὸ ᾽Αβραὰμ ἕως Δαυῒδ γενεαὶ δεκατέσσαρες, καὶ ἀπὸ Δαυῒδ ἕως τῆς μετοικεσίας Βα βυλῶνος γενεαὶ δεκατέσσαρες, καὶ ἀπὸ τῆς μετοικεσίας Βαβυλῶνος ἕως τοῦ Χριστοῦ γενεαὶ δεκατέσσαρες. Τοῦ δὲ ᾽Ιησοῦ Χριστοῦ ἡ γέννησις οὕτως ἦν. Μνη στευθείσης γὰρ τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ Μαρίας τῷ ᾽Ιωσήφ, πρὶν ἢ συνελθεῖν αὐτοὺς εὑρέθη ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχουσα ἐκ Πνεύματος ῾Αγίου. ᾽Ιωσὴφ δὲ ὁ ἀνὴρ αὐτῆς, δίκαιος ὢν καὶ μὴ θέλων αὐτὴν παραδειγματίσαι, ἐβουλήθη λάθρα ἀπολῦσαι αὐτήν. Ταῦτα δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐνθυμηθέντος ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος Κυρίου κατ᾽ ὄναρ ἐφάνη αὐτῷ λέγων· ᾽Ιωσὴφ υἱὸς Δαυΐδ, μὴ φοβηθῇς παραλαβεῖν Μαριὰμ τὴν γυ ναῖκα σου· τὸ γὰρ ἐν αὐτῇ γεννηθὲν ἐκ Πνεύματός ἐστιν ῾Αγίου· τέξεται δὲ υἱὸν καὶ καλέσεις τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ᾽Ιησοῦν· αὐτὸς γὰρ σώσει τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν αὐτῶν. Τοῦτο δὲ ὅλον γέγονεν ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ρηθὲν ὑπὸ τοῦ Κυρίου διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· ἰδοὺ ἡ παρθένος ἐν γαστρὶ ἕξει καὶ τέξεται υἱόν, καὶ καλέσουσι τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ᾽Εμμανουήλ, ὅ ἐστι μεθερμηνευόμενον μεθ᾽ ἡμῶν ὁ Θεός. Διεγερθεὶς δὲ ὁ ᾽Ιωσὴφ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕπνου ἐποίησεν ὡς προσέταξεν αὐτῷ ὁ ἄγγελος Κυρίου καὶ παρέλαβε τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ, καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκεν αὐτὴν ἕως οὗ ἔτεκε τὸν υἱὸν αὐτῆς τὸν πρωτότοκον, καὶ ἐκάλεσε τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ ᾽Ιησοῦν.
Τοῦ δὲ ᾽Ιησοῦ γεννηθέντος ἐν Βηθλεὲμ τῆς ᾽Ιουδαίας ἐν ἡμέραις ῾Ηρῴδου τοῦ βασιλέως, ἰδοὺ μάγοι ἀπὸ ἀνα τολῶν παρεγένοντο εἰς ῾Ιεροσόλυμα λέγοντες· ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ τεχθεὶς βασιλεὺς τῶν ᾽Ιουδαίων; εἴδομεν γὰρ αὐτοῦ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ καὶ ἤλθομεν προσκυνῆσαι αὐτῷ. ᾽Ακούσας δὲ ῾Ηρῴδης ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐταράχθη καὶ πᾶσα ῾Ιεροσόλυμα μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ, καὶ συναγαγὼν πάντας τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ γραμματεῖς τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπυνθάνετο παρ᾽ αὐτῶν ποῦ ὁ Χριστὸς γεννᾶται. οἱ δὲ εἶπον αὐτῷ· ἐν Βηθλεὲμ τῆς ᾽Ιουδαίας· οὕτω γὰρ γέγραπται διὰ τοῦ προφήτου· καὶ σὺ Βηθλεέμ, γῆ ᾽Ιούδα, οὐδαμῶς ἐλαχίστη εἶ ἐν τοῖς ἡγεμόσιν ᾽Ιούδα· ἐκ σοῦ γὰρ ἐξελεύσεται ἡγούμενος, ὅστις ποιμανεῖ τὸν λαόν μου τὸν ᾽Ισραήλ. Τότε ῾Ηρῴδης λάθρα καλέσας τοὺς μά γους ἠκρίβωσε παρ᾽ αὐτῶν τὸν χρόνον τοῦ φαινομένου ἀστέρος, καὶ πέμψας αὐτοὺς εἰς Βηθλεὲμ εἶπε· πορευ θέντες ἀκριβῶς ἐξετάσατε περὶ τοῦ παιδίου, ἐπὰν δὲ εὕρητε, ἀπαγγείλατέ μοι, ὅπως κἀγὼ ἐλθὼν προσκυ νήσω αὐτῷ. οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπορεύθησαν· καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ ἀστὴρ ὃν εἶδον ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ προῆγεν αὐτούς, ἕως ἐλθὼν ἔστη ἐπάνω οὗ ἦν τὸ παιδίον· ἰδόντες δὲ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐχάρησαν χαρὰν μεγάλην σφόδρα, καὶ ἐλ θόντες εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εἶδον τὸ παιδίον μετὰ Μαρίας τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ πεσόντες προσεκύνησαν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἀνοίξαντες τοὺς θησαυροὺς αὐτῶν προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δῶρα, χρυσὸν καὶ λίβανον καὶ σμύρναν· καὶ χρηματισθέντες κατ᾽ ὄναρ μὴ ἀνακάμψαι πρὸς ῾Ηρῴδην, δι᾽ ἄλλης ὁδοῦ ἀνεχώρησαν εἰς τὴν χώραν αὐτῶν. ᾽Αναχωρησάντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος Κυρίου φαί νεται κατ᾽ ὄναρ τῷ ᾽Ιωσὴφ λέγων· ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ φεῦγε εἰς Αἴγυ πτον, καὶ ἴσθι ἐκεῖ ἕως ἂν εἴπω σοι· μέλλει γὰρ ῾Ηρῴ δης ζητεῖν τὸ παιδίον τοῦ ἀπολέσαι αὐτό. ῾Ο δὲ ἐγερ θεὶς παρέλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ νυκτὸς καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς Αἴγυπτον, καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἕως τῆς τε λευτῆς ῾Ηρῴδου, ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ρηθὲν ὑπὸ τοῦ Κυ ρίου διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· ἐξ Αἰγύπτου ἐκά λεσα τὸν υἱόν μου. Τότε ῾Ηρῴδης ἰδὼν ὅτι ἐνεπαίχθη ὑπὸ τῶν μάγων, ἐθυμώθη λίαν, καὶ ἀποστείλας ἀνεῖλε πάντας τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς ἐν Βηθλεὲμ καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῆς ἀπὸ διετοῦς καὶ κατωτέρω, κατὰ τὸν χρό νον ὃν ἠκρίβωσε παρὰ τῶν μάγων. τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑπὸ ῾Ιερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος· φωνὴ ἐν ῾Ραμᾷ ἠκούσθη, θρῆνοι καὶ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὀδυρ μὸς πολύς· ῾Ραχὴλ κλαίουσα τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελε παρακληθῆναι, ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν. Τελευτή σαντος δὲ τοῦ ῾Ηρῴδου ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος Κυρίου κατ᾽ ὄναρ φαίνεται τῷ ᾽Ιωσὴφ ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ λέγων· ἐγερθεὶς παρά λαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πορεύου εἰς γῆν ᾽Ισραήλ· τεθνήκασι γὰρ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ παιδίου. ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς γῆν ᾽Ισραήλ. ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι ᾽Αρχέλαος βασιλεύει ἐπὶ τῆς ᾽Ιουδαίας ἀντί ῾Ηρῴ δου τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ, ἐφοβήθη ἐκεῖ ἀπελθεῖν· χρη ματισθεὶς δὲ κατ᾽ ὄναρ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη τῆς Γαλιλαίας, καὶ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς πόλιν λεγομένην Ναζαρέτ, ὅπως πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ τῶν προφητῶν ὅτι Ναζωραῖος κληθήσεται.

᾽Εν δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις παραγίνεται ᾽Ιωάννης ὁ βαπτιστὴς κηρύσσων ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τῆς ᾽Ιουδαίας καὶ λέγων· μετανοεῖτε· ἤγγικε γὰρ ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν. οὗτος γάρ ἐστιν ὁ ρηθεὶς ὑπὸ ῾Ησαΐου τοῦ προφή του λέγοντος· φωνὴ βοῶντος ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ἑτοιμάσατε τὴν ὁδὸν Κυρίου, εὐθείας ποιεῖτε τὰς τρίβους αὐτοῦ. Αὐτὸς δὲ ὁ ᾽Ιωάννης εἶχε τὸ ἔνδυμα αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τριχῶν καμήλου καὶ ζώνην δερματίνην περὶ τὴν ὀσφὺν αὐτοῦ, ἡ δὲ τροφὴ αὐτοῦ ἦν ἀκρίδες καὶ μέλι ἄγριον. Τότε παραγίνεται ὁ ᾽Ιησοῦς ἀπὸ τῆς Γαλιλαίας ἐπὶ τὸν ᾽Ιορδάνην πρὸς τὸν ᾽Ιωάννην τοῦ βαπτισθῆναι ὑπ᾽ αὐτοῦ. ὁ δὲ ᾽Ιωάννης διεκώλυεν αὐτὸν λέγων· ἐγὼ χρείαν ἔχω ὑπὸ σοῦ βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ σὺ ἔρχῃ πρός με; ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ ᾽Ιησοῦς εἶπε πρὸς αὐτόν· ἄφες ἄρτι· οὕτω γὰρ πρέπον ἐστὶν ἡμῖν πληρῶσαι πᾶσαν δικαιο σύνην. τότε ἀφίησιν αὐτόν· καὶ βαπτισθεὶς ὁ ᾽Ιησοῦς ἀνέβη εὐθὺς ἀπὸ τοῦ ὕδατος· καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνεῴχθησαν αὐτῷ οἱ οὐρανοί, καὶ εἶδε τὸ Πνεῦμα τοῦ Θεοῦ καταβαῖνον ὡσεὶ περιστερὰν καὶ ἐρχόμενον ἐπ᾽ αὐτόν· καὶ ἰδοὺ φωνὴ ἐκ τῶν οὐρανῶν λέγουσα· οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱός μου ὁ ἀγαπητός, ἐν ᾧ εὐδόκησα.
At that time, Jesus decided to go to Galilee. And He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me”
Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Philip found Nathanael, and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!”
Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.”
Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!”
Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You shall see greater things than these.”
And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”

Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἠθέλησεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐξελθεῖν εἰς τήν Γαλιλαίαν· καί εὑρίσκει Φίλιππον καί λέγει αὐτῷ· ἀκολούθει μοι.
Ἦν δέ ὁ Φίλιππος ἀπό Βηθσαϊδά, ἐκ τῆς πόλεως Ἀνδρέου καί Πέτρου.
Εὑρίσκει Φίλιππος τόν Ναθαναήλ καί λέγει αὐτῷ· ὅν ἔγραψε Μωϋσῆς ἐν τῷ νόμῳ καί οἱ προφῆται, εὑρήκαμεν, Ἰησοῦν τόν υἱόν τοῦ Ἰωσήφ τόν ἀπό Ναζαρέτ.
Καί εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ναθαναήλ· ἐκ Ναζαρέτ δύναταί τι ἀγαθόν εἶναι; Λέγει αὐτῷ Φίλιππος· ἔρχου καί ἴδε.

Λέγει αὐτῷ Ναθαναήλ· πόθεν με γινώσκεις; ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καί εἶπεν αὐτῷ· πρό τοῦ σε Φίλιππον φωνῆσαι, ὄντα ὑπό τήν συκῆν εἶδόν σε.
Ἀπεκρίθη Ναθαναήλ καί λέγει αὐτῷ· ραββί, σύ εἶ ὁ υἱός τοῦ Θεοῦ, σύ εἶ ὁ βασιλεύς τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.
Ἀπεκρίθη Ἰησοῦς καί εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ὅτι εἶπόν σοι, εἶδόν σε ὑποκάτω τῆς συκῆς, πιστεύεις; Μείζω τούτων ὄψει.
Καί λέγει αὐτῷ· ἀμήν ἀμήν λέγω ὑμῖν, ἀπ’ ἄρτι ὄψεσθε τόν οὐρανόν ἀνεῳγότα, καί τούς ἀγγέλους τοῦ Θεοῦ ἀναβαίνοντας καί καταβαίνοντας ἐπί τόν υἱόν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου.

ΑΠΟΛΥΤΙΚΙΟ ΤΗΣ ΟΡΘΟΔΟΞΙΑΣ

We venerate your most pure icon, loving Lord, as we ask pardon for our offences, Christ God. For by your own choice you were well pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, to deliver from the slavery of the enemy those whom you had fashioned; therefore with thanksgiving we cry to you: You have filled all things with joy, our Saviour, by coming to save the world.

The Lord said this parable: “A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it.
Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture.
And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it.
But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.”
Then His disciples asked Him, saying, “What does this parable mean?”
And He said: “To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.
Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity.
But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.
When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

And wherever it seizes him, it throws him down; he foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth, and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to cast it out but they were unable to do so”.
He answered him and said, “O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to Me”.
Then they brought him to Him. And when he saw Him, immediately the spirit convulsed him, and he fell on the ground and wallowed, foaming at the mouth.
So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said “From childhood.
And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”
When Jesus saw that the people came running together, He rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it: “Deaf and dumb spirit, I command you, come out of him and enter him no more!”
Then the spirit cried out, convulsed him greatly, and came out of him. And he became as one dead, so that many said, “He is dead.”
But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
And when He had come into the house, His disciples asked Him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
So He said to them, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.”
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.
For He taught His disciples and said to them, “The Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of men, and they will kill Him. And after He is killed, He will rise the third day.”

And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant.
So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.
And he cried out, saying: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet, but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
So Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him,
Saying: “What do you want Me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.”
Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.”
And immediately he received his sight and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

Ὅταν κατέβηκες στό βασίλειο τοῦ θανάτου, Σύ πού εἶσαι ἡ Ζωή ἡ ἀθάνατος, μέ τήν ἀκατάβλυτη λάμψη τῆς θεότητάς Σου, κατέστησες νεκρό τόν Ἅδη. Ὅταν δέ ἀνάστησες καί τούς νεκρούς ἀπό τά βάθη τῆς γῆς, τότε ὅλες οἱ στρατιές τῶν ἐπουρανίων Ἀγγέλων μέ θαυμασμό ἔκραξαν· Χριστέ ὁ Θεός μας, δόξα σ’ Ἐσέ πού εἶσαι ὁ χορηγός τῆς ζωῆς.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
When Thou, the Immortal Life, didst come down to Death, then didst Thou slay Hades through the dazzling brightness of thy Godhead; and when Thou didst raise up the dead from the abyss, all the powers of Heaven cried aloud: Christ, our God, Giver of Life, Glory to Thee.
Today the Virgin comes to the cave, to give birth ineffably to the eternal Word. Hearing this, dance, O inhabited world! Glorify, with Angels and with Shepherds, Him who willed to be made manifest, a little Child, God before the ages.

He noticed two boats standing by the lake, but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets.
Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.
So they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.
When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!”
For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken;
And so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.”
So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.

ΝΕΟΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΑΠΟΔΟΣΗ
Εἶπε ὁ Κύριος: «Ἦταν ἕνας πλούσιος καί φοροῦσε κόκκινο πανάκριβο ἔνδυμα μέ λευκό λινό πολυτελῆ χιτῶνα, καί κάθε μέρα διασκέδαζε λαμπρά.
Ἦταν δέ κάποιος φτωχός πού τόν ἔλεγαν Λάζαρο, παραπεταμένος κοντά στήν πύλη τοῦ πλουσίου, γεμᾶτος πληγές
καί ἤθελε νά χορτάσει μέ τά ψίχουλα πού ἔπεφταν ἀπό τό τραπέζι τοῦ πλουσίου. Ἀλλά καί οἱ σκύλοι ἔρχονταν καί ἔγλυφαν τίς πληγές του.
Συνέβηκε δέ νά πεθάνει ὁ φτωχός καί νά μεταφερθεῖ ἀπό τούς ἀγγέλους στήν ἀγκαλιά τοῦ Ἀβραάμ. Πέθανε καί ὁ πλούσιος καί τόν ἔθαψαν.
Καί στόν Ἅδη ὅπου ἦταν καί βασανιζόταν, σήκωσε τά μάτια του καί εἶδε ἀπό μακρυά τόν Ἀβραάμ καί τό Λάζαρο στήν ἀγκαλιά του.
Καί τότε φώναξε καί εἶπε: «Πατέρα Ἀβραάμ, ἐλέησέ με καί στεῖλε τό Λάζαρο νά βρέξει τήν ἄκρη τοῦ δακτύλου του καί νά δροσίσει τή γλῶσσα μου, γιατί ὑποφέρω μέσα σ’ αὐτή τή φωτιά».
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
The Lord said: “There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who fared sumptuously every day.
But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
So it was, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. Τhe rich man also died and was buried;
And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.
Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame’.
εἶπε δέ Ἀβραάμ· τέκνον, μνήσθητι ὅτι ἀπέλαβες σύ τά ἀγαθά σου ἐν τῇ ζωῇ σου, καί Λάζαρος ὁμοίως τά κακά· νῦν δέ ὧδε παρακαλεῖται, σύ δέ ὀδυνᾶσαι.

Κι’ ἐκτός ἀπ’ ὅλα αὐτά, ὑπάρχει ἀνάμεσά μας μεγάλο χάσμα, ὥστε αὐτοί πού θέλουν νά διαβοῦν ἀπό ἐδῶ σέ σᾶς νά μή μποροῦν, οὔτε καί οἱ ἀπό ἐκεῖ νά περάσουν σέ μᾶς».
Τότε εἶπε: «Σέ παρακαλῶ λοιπόν, Πατέρα, στεῖλε τό Λάζαρο στό σπίτι τοῦ πατέρα μου,
διότι ἔχω πέντε ἀδελφούς, νά τούς προειδοποιήσει, γιά νά μήν ἔλθουν κι’ αὐτοί σ’ αὐτό τόν τόπο τῶν βασάνων».
Ὁ Ἀβραάμ τοῦ λέγει: «Εχουν τό Μωϋσῆ καί τούς προφῆτες· ἄς ἀκούσουν αὐτούς».
Ἐκεῖνος τότε εἶπε: «Ὄχι, Πατέρα Ἀβραάμ. Ἄν ὅμως κάποιος ἀπό τούς νεκρούς πάει σ’ αὐτούς, θά μετανοήσουν».
Τοῦ εἶπε δέ ὁ Ἀβραάμ: «Ἄν δέν ἀκοῦνε τό Μωϋσῆ καί τούς προφῆτες, οὔτε κι’ ἄν ἀναστηθεῖ κανείς ἀπό τούς νεκρούς θά πεισθοῦν».
But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed; so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot; nor can those from there pass to us’.
Then he said, ‘I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father’s house;
For I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment’.
Abraham said to him, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them’.
And he said, ‘ No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead, they will repent’.
But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rise from the dead”.

Ἡ Παρθένος σήμερον τόν προαιώνιον Λόγον, ἐν σπηλαίῳ ἔρχεται ἀποτεκεῖν ἀπορρήτως. Χόρευε, ἡ οἰκουμένη, ἀκουτισθεῖσα· δόξασον, μετά ἀγγέλων καί τῶν ποιμένων, βουληθέντα ἐποφθῆναι παιδίον νέον, τόν πρό αἰώνων Θεόν.
ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΜΕΤΑΦΡΑΣΗ
Ἡ Παρθένος σήμερα ἔρχεται εἰς τό σπήλαιο γιά νά γεννήσει τό Χριστό (τόν Προαιώνιον Λόγο) μέ τρόπο πού δέν μπορεῖ νά ἐκφραστεῖ μέ λόγια. Χαίρου ὅλη ἡ οἰκουμένη ἀφοῦ ἄκουσες αὐτό τό μήνυμα. Νά δοξάσεις μέ τούς ἀγγέλους καί τούς ποιμένες τόν προ αἰώνων Θεό πού θέλησε νά φανερωθεῖ ὡς μικρό παιδί.

Today the Virgin comes to the cave, to give birth ineffably to the eternal Word. Hearing this, dance, O inhabited world! Glorify, with Angels and with Shepherds, Him who willed to be made manifest, a little Child, God before the ages.

When Thou, the Immortal Life, didst come down to Death, then didst Thou slay Hades through the dazzling brightness of Thy Godhead; and when Thou didst raise up the dead from the abyss, all the powers of Heaven cried aloud; Christ, our God, Giver of Life, Glory to Thee.
Your Nativity, O mother of God, heralded joy to the whole universe, for from you rose the Sun of Justice, Christ our God. He cancelled the curse and poured forth His grace: He vanquished death and granted us eternal life.
O Lord save Your people and bless Your inheritance, granting our believing Kings victory over the barbarians, and by the power of Your Cross preserving Your faithful.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Let us believers praise and let us worship the Word, who like the Father and the Spirit is without beginning, born from a Virgin for our salvation; for He was well pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh and undergo death, and to raise those who had died, by His glorious Resurrrection.
Let us flee the proud speech of the Pharisee and learn the humility of the Publican, as with groans we cry to the Saviour: Be merciful to us, for you alone are ready to forgive.

The Lord said: “There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who fared sumptuously every day.
But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,
desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
So it was, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. Τhe rich man also died and was buried;
And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.
Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame’.

At that time, Jesus taking the twelve aside, he began to tell them the things that would happen to Him.
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles;
and they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and Kill Him. And the third day He will rise again”.
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask”.
But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and be baptised with the baptism that I am baptised with?”
They said to Him, “We are able.” So Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptised with you will be baptised.
But to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared.”
And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John.
But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.
Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant.
And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all.
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
